The kitchen for a child is not just a place where food is prepared. From a Montessori perspective, it is a living learning space where the child learns through real, meaningful activity.
Food preparation fosters independence and self-confidence. When a child sees that their contribution is important to the family, they experience a true sense of purpose: "I can. I contribute." Even simple tasks—washing an apple or sprinkling spices—strengthen responsibility and intrinsic motivation.

Scissors are often considered just a craft tool, but in the Montessori method, they are a truly important tool that helps children develop independence, concentration, and fine motor skills, which prepare the child for writing in the future.
The task set includes activities for cutting practice at 5 different levels, so the child can progress at their own pace.
When a child uses scissors, they are doing much more than just cutting paper:
• Strengthening hand muscles: by holding scissors and opening and closing them, the child strengthens the small muscles in their hands and fingers. These are the very muscles children will later use to hold and control a pencil on paper.
• Practicing bilateral coordination: cutting requires both hands to work together in different ways – one hand holds the scissors, the other guides the paper. This is excellent preparation for writing, when one hand holds the paper and the other writes.
• Improving hand-eye coordination: the child must watch where the scissors move and adjust their hands to keep the tool on the line. This coordination is essential not only for writing skills but also for everyday tasks like dressing and eating.
• Developing concentration and perseverance: cutting is a truly challenging activity! It requires focus, patience, and constant practice. Every successful cut boosts the child’s self-confidence.
• Encouraging creativity and independence: when children learn to use scissors, they gain a new way to explore art, design, and problem-solving through play.

March is the season when the first signs of spring return. Have you already heard the cheerful songs of birds in your yard? Maybe even spotted a few? But did you know — not all birds fly away for the winter. Some of them stay with us all year round.
Together with “Skaitau nuo gimimo” we created these 3-part Montessori cards, designed to help children recognize different birds and learn which ones spend the winter here, and which return with the spring.
You can enrich the activity by listening to bird calls (link included in the file).
For older children, these cards also make a wonderful tool for practicing letter recognition and early reading.

Order in the environment helps children understand their world, and from this sense of order grows independence. The Montessori method says that "order supports freedom." When a child knows where certain items are always placed, they don’t need to rely on an adult to navigate their space. They can find what they need, return the item when finished, and smoothly transition from one activity to another. This predictability reduces frustration and helps regulate emotions – children feel safe when their environment is understandable to them.
An orderly environment also encourages concentration. When there are few toys and materials and they are always returned to the same place, children can focus more on the play itself. They spend less time searching and turning over items, and more time engaging meaningfully with what is in front of them.
With our created category cards, label boxes, drawers, or baskets so children can easily navigate the space independently. Such markers act as silent guides, helping even children who cannot yet read.
